Want to be a better speaker?  Then do more speaking!

Tried something new lately?  Chances are you’re gonna be crap at it!

Catching up with friends on the weekend I was telling them how excited I was to be starting my pottery wheel course on Monday. We started busily brainstorming all the fabulous things I was going to make.

And my friend said “Oooh, make one of these!” and she produced a beautiful little milk jug that sits in the palm of your hand.

The picture on the right shows my attempt.

And you know what, I’m OK with that. Because I know that the things that often look effortless actually take a lot of practice. As I say to my kids, never let fear or pride stop you from starting something poorly. Pleasant, patient, persistence (and some quality instruction) will pay off.

I can’t wait for my next lesson!
